
Safe House Counselor/Advocate
The Safe House Counselor/Advocate provides direct services to adult and child victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and other serious crimes. This role involves counseling individuals one-to-one, facilitating groups, or providing support via the hotline to empower individuals and strengthen families.
The Safe House Counselor/Advocate also assists in overseeing the maintenance of the safe house facility. This position may require significant local travel. The Safe House Counselor/Advocate is a mandated reporter of suspected child abuse as defined by Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law.
This is a full-time position with primarily daytime and early evening hours in our Northumberland County Safe House. The Safe House Counselor/Advocate participates in on-call duties.
Full-Time; Non-Exempt Position
Starting Salary: $16-$19/hr ($33,280 - $39,520)

Promote interpersonal interactions and provide ongoing support for safe house guests.

Admit victims of domestic violence and sexual assault to the safe house or hotel, following established intake procedures.

Provide options and resources to safe house guests to encourage economic empowerment.

Help safe house guests address challenges related to housing, employment, education, and transportation.

Explain and enforce agency safe house guidelines and policies.

Facilitate support/educational groups for safe house guests.

Assist exiting safe house clients in acquiring necessary provisions for independent living.

Manage inventory and maintain supplies, including food staples and other donated items, and oversee housekeeping in the safe house.

Collaborate with other Safe House Department staff to inventory, sort, store, and distribute donated items to clients.

Oversee upkeep of the safe house facility by scheduling and documenting required repairs and maintenance.

Conduct monthly fire drills and maintain necessary logs.

Assist with the oversight and upkeep of grounds and agency vehicles.

Provide one-to-one empowerment counseling for clients, as assigned.

Respond effectively to hotline calls.

Collaborate with staff members regarding service provision and the establishment of related policies and procedures.

Complete and maintain required documentation in Efforts to Outcome (ETO) software.

Attend staff meetings and in-service training.

Participate in primary on-call rotations.

Perform other related duties as assigned, as allowable by funders.

Adhere to Transitions of PA policies and procedures in the organization’s employee handbook as well as all other applicable policies and procedures.
qualifications
Preferred

Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services-related field.
Required
-
High school diploma, with a minimum of four years’ experience in social work, human services, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be knowledgeable of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other serious crimes and relevant issues and their impact on victims.

Must have excellent organizational, written, and communication skills and a command of computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office products.

Upon hire, must complete 80-hour Transitions Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Counselor Training.
